The LuKiVa intervention study examines the development of children’s reading skills
The intervention study on literacy skills and interest in reading (LuKiVa) examines how the use of the dialogic reading method and increasing the amount of reading promote the development of literacy skills in 5–6-year-old children.
Early childhood education and preschool settings have been randomly selected for the study, which are divided into experimental settings and control settings. In the experimental settings, children participate in dialogic reading sessions twice a week. In the guided reading sessions, children have the opportunity to ask questions, wonder and share their own thoughts. On other days, children are given a free-form reading time. In the control settings, children’s literacy skills are supported as usual.
During the study, children participate in assessments of literacy skills. The assessments include literacy tasks that are carried out in the ViLLE learning environment. The first assessments are now underway.
